With a slightly softer action than our other fly fishing rods, a tried-and-true IM10 carbon fiber composition ensures that a 5wt Craig comes in at just 3 ounces, perfect for long days on the trail. Tuck it into your backpack, stuff it in your camper, or carry it onto an airplane—we love packing this fly rod into all the hard-to-reach places.

Caring for Your Rod
Always rinse your rod with fresh water after a hard day of fishing in the salt. Saltwater will cause corrosion without proper washing and maintenance of your gear.

Don't ever leave your rod on the ground or near car doors - use your imagination here.
If you hit a snag, don't try to free your fly with your rod. Instead, point your rod tip directly at the snag (or upstream of it if you can) and apply gentle pressure to release (or break the line).
Always try to use good casting technique. This may sound a little silly, but when a fly, or worse yet, a sinker, hits your fly rod on the back cast, it can damage the epoxy, causing a weak spot in your rod.
Do not hold your rod more than 90 degrees from the water when fighting or landing a fish. This puts too much stress on the rod and is a common cause of breakage.
Be sure your rod is firmly secured at the ferrules. Many-a-rod breaks due to loose ferrules.
Keep your hands on the cork while fighting and landing fish. Don't try to support the rod above the cork on the shaft.
Be careful of hitting your rod against trees, the ground, vehicles, doorways of your house, or anything else. Again, this can damage the finish, and create a weak spot in your rod. When this happens, in time. the rod may "inexplicably" break.
How Did We Name Our Fly rods?
The Craig is named for the famed Craig fishing access site on the Missouri River...
Rain or shine, winter or summer, there is always fly fishing to be done near the tiny town of Craig, Montana. With the wide-open Missouri river flowing by the town’s eastern border, this site is easily accessible year-round and sits on a stretch of water that remains one of my go-to spots for a relaxing afternoon float.
I can remember countless days in the drift boat, trading off oars with my wife and kids as we fished our way down from the Holter dam and into the broader waters leading up to Craig.
Whether it’s a picnic on the sandbar, stories exchanged with fellow fishermen, or our excitable golden retriever lunging at an escaping fish, each outing is something special.
Taking out at the Craig fishing access and grabbing a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants is always the perfect end to a perfect day!

"I have been out of the fly fishing game for 20 years. I wanted to up the quality of my rod and reel if I was going to get back in, so I did some research and came across the Montana Casting Co. I liked what I read and found the Craig Fly Rod 4 piece combo to be exactly what I was looking for. I took a shot on it and am glad I did. I took my first trip to Bridgeport, CA to try it out. It did not disappoint. The action on the rod made casting very easy and the reel is smooth for stripping line and bringing in fish. I used this setup for river fishing as well as float tube fishing on lakes. It performed well with both types of fishing which makes for great versatility. I just got back from a 3 day trip to Kern River, CA. Again, this combo was everything I had hoped it would be. The action on the rod made it a lot of fun to fight fish and the reel performed great. The other part I like about this company is the personal customer service. Scott called me on his personal cell phone to make sure we had all the specs right with the order before sending it. I am glad he did because we ended up making a couple of changes. If he had not done this, I would have to send it back to make the changes and it would not have been ready to go for my upcoming trip.
