  • Dearborn Fly Fishing Rod Specifications

Designed as a “two-line” rod, a quick spool change enables you to equip this durable, fast-action rod for any number of fly fishing scenarios without sacrificing control. Rig a 5wt Dearborn with a 5wt line and you’ll get high line speeds coupled with a softer presentation, perfect for dry fly fishing. That same 5wt fly rod can be overlined with a 6wt line—transforming it into a powerful, line-launching machine capable of driving heavy nymphs and streamers through the wind.

The Dearborn is made with original Montana Casting Company blanks crafted from a durable mixed graphite and woven carbon composition. A CNC-machined aluminum and carbon fiber reel seat resists corrosion and you’ll get a removeable fighting butt with the purchase of any 7 through 9 wt fly rod—making this our most salt-water ready rod. We recommend the Dearborn to seasoned fly fishermen looking to get the most out of their rod in a broad range of fly fishing conditions.

All of our fly rods come with a rod sock and rod/reel combo case.

Dearborn Fly Rod with Nymphing Rig

    • Offered in 2-piece and 4-piece models
    • 4wt - 9wt fly rods
    • 9 ft length
    • Constructed of Woven Carbon Fiber and a Graphite-Toray blend
    • High-performance, fast action perfect for intermediate and expert casting levels
    • Comes with rod sock and signature MCCo. rod and reel case designed for either 2-piece or 4-piece rods
    • 7wt - 9wt rods come with both a standard and fighting butt
    • Best Montana Casting Co.® rod model for saltwater fishing - the carbon fiber reel seat is saltwater resistant.*

All Montana Casting Co.® rods are finished with the highest quality epoxy and thread wraps with metallic highlights. Look for our signature metallic "spring" around the middle ferrule—a symbol of each rod’s ability to build, store, and release energy in perfect harmony.

A note on the Dearborn model: Fewer ferrules means fewer interruptions in a rod's flexibility and performance. For peak performance, we recommend ordering the Dearborn as a two-piece rod but we've tacked on a four-piece option just in case you're looking for something a bit more travel-ready.

*Always remember to wash all your gear with fresh water after a hard day of fishing in the salt. Saltwater will
cause corrosion without proper washing and maintenance of your gear.

Every Rod & Reel is Covered by The Montana Handshake Warranty:

Lifetime warranty against defects and accidents on all of our rods and reels for as long as you own them.
See The Montana Handshake Limited Warranty for details.

AND The Montana Casting Co.® 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee:

We think your relationship with your Montana Casting Co.® fly rod will be love at first cast! In the unlikely event that it's not, Montana Casting Co.® offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
See our Terms of Purchase and Refund for details.

The Dearborn is named after the Dearborn fishing access, located just east of the confluence of the Dearborn River with the Missouri...  The Dearborn Fishing Access is a special place that brings back memories from a time long past. We’d put in above the Dearborn on hot summer days to float the mighty Mo. Whether we we’re hammering fish on dries or nymphs, there was always time to pull off at the gravel bar just below the confluence of the Dearborn and the Missouri. After a few casts with the sun beating down from above, we’d set our fishing rods aside and go for a dip. Once we’d had our fill of cool river water, we would sit and eat lunch—watching the dog continue to run up to the top of the riffle and ride the waves down. Inevitably, the river would call once more, and we’d clamber back into the boat with our fly rods at the ready.
